A barbed fitting, also called hose barb fitting, hose barb, or barbed connector, is a style of coupling for hose connection with continuous ridges on one or both ends that grip the inside diameter of a hose to seal the connection. The hose barb generally provides all of the sealing and holding force, but some applications require a clamp to provide additional holding power.

Hose barbs come in many shapes and sizes. Common sizes include 1/4″, 3/8″, 1/2″, and 3/4″ hose barb. Types of barb fittings include barbed press-in plugs, reducers, wye (Y) fittings, elbows, sleeves, tees, and manifold fittings. Many barbed fittings are adapters with a barb connector on one end and a threaded connection on the other end. Barbed fitting kits are also available with varying assortments of barbed fittings.

For high pressure applications or for handling certain chemicals and compounds, a metal barbed connector is often required. PVC hose barb fittings are often used in home plumbing and certain commercial operations. Nylon, polypropylene, and polyethylene are also common materials used to make plastic hose barb fittings.

Barb fittings are used in hydraulic, pneumatic, and plumbing applications.
